Complex Water-ice Mixtures on NII Nereid: Constraints from NIR Reflectance

چکیده

Abstract Nereid, Neptune’s third-largest satellite, lies in an irregular orbit and is the only outer satellite system (apart from Triton) that can be spectroscopically characterized with current generation of Earth-based telescopes. We report our results on spectral characterization Nereid using its reflectance spectrum 0.8 to 2.4 μ m, providing first measurements over range 0.8–1.4 m. detect absorption features crystalline water ice close agreement previous measurements. show model fits simple intimate mixtures including do not provide simultaneous matches band depths at 1.5 2.0 m when accounting for continuum. Detection of water ice on Nereid.

We report the detection of the 1.5 and 2.0 micrometers absorption bands of water ice in the near-infrared reflection spectrum of Neptune's distant irregular satellite Nereid. The spectrum and albedo of Nereid appear intermediate between those of the Uranian satellites Umbriel and Oberon, suggesting a surface composed of a combination of water ice frost and a dark and spectrally neutral material...

Estimating Leaf Water Status from Vis-nir Reflectance and Transmittance

Remotely sensing the water status of plant canopies remains a long term goal of remote sensing research. Established approaches involve measurements in the thermal infrared and the 900-2000nm reflective infrared. Less popular UVvisible-NIR techniques presumably deserve research attention, because photochemical changes linked to plant water status manifest spectral light scattering and absorptio...

Mechanics and Thermodynamics of Mixtures with Continuous Diversity From Complex Media to Ice Sheets

The aim of this thesis is to introduce to the reader the thermodynamic theory of mixtures with continuous diversity and to illustrate its potential through applications to diverse complex media. Chapter 1 offers a critical discussion about the intricacies in the description of complex media as continuous bodies. Fundamentals on the homogenization (structural averaging) of porous materials are p...

SNE IA CONSTRAINTS FROM NIR SPECTRA 3 use of SNe

RESUMEN El resumen será traducido al español por los editores. We describe a research program to improve the understanding of Type Ia Super-novae (SNe Ia) by modeling and observing near infrared (NIR) spectra of these events. The NIR between 0.9µ and 2.5µ is optimal for examining certain products of the SNe Ia explosion that may be blended or obscured in other spectral regions. NIR analysis wil...
